Some scholars in the Western world believe that the chakra system started around 1500 BC in India, when the earliest texts on yoga, the Vedas, were penned. Most of the scholars from India think the chakra system is very much older than that. In the chakra philosophy, the entire universe is acknowledged as being created, transfixed, and sustained by two perfect forces in a permanently indestructible union known as "Shiva" and "Shak" which are represented biologically as the feminine and masculine poles.
The word chakra translates from Sanskrit to mean “wheel” and refers to the different energy points in the human body. They are thought of as spinning disks of energy that should stay aligned or “open” because they are associated with major organs, nerve bundles, and specific energetic areas of our bodies that affect our physical and psychological or emotional well-being. According to some, there are 114 different chakras in the human body, but seven of them are considered to be the main chakras which run along our spine.
